Pictures are of 2 versions of the ladder loop that we have built to date- a 20 meter loop (mine) and a 40 meter version which was built by KM6T.

The characteristics of the antennas are:

  • drive loop made from twin lead
  • formed into a circle and open ends connect:
    • one lead from both sides crossover
    • other 2 wires connect to tuning capacitor
  • RF input applied with Ferrite core transformer
    • feed point should be opposite cap (90 degree OK)
    • 1 inch type 43 ferrite core suitable – place on 1 wire of twin lead (cut /insert/ reconnect)
    • wire used for drive/ferrite should be opposite to cap
    • loops tested with 100 watts SSB and power limit is determined by core and the cap
  • capacitor can be RG213 (approx 30pf/foot
  • online test are ongoing

Picture on the right shows KM6T drive with 2 ferrite cores (increases power handling). The core paases through one wire and note there is a shadow (not second wire) .

Not visible in the picture above is the use of a variable cap.
